EVALUATION: Audience Feedback

I used Facebook, the world most popular social networking site, to reach  my target audience. I selected specific demographics: 15-23, working/middle class etc. Using Facbook I was able to search and look up keyworks like: "Horror" "Teen" "school" and more that are associated with my film and match them up to the likes and dislikes and the about me section on Facebooks. Once I had selected people from this demographic I posted my video onto their walls to have a look at my trailer.

All the comments above are positive

EVALUATION: Audience feedback

Our film industry mentors watched and judged a group of 12 trailers. Theey had several positive comments which included:

"Great Editing!"
"Love it! I was genuinely terrified"
"One of the best of the bunch"

This lead to us winning the award for best editing

The also had some helpful feedback on how to improve our trailer:

  1.  Lighting - The judges felt that the beginning of our trailer did not have great lighting and it was difficult to see the picture. This was because we did not have portable lights and as it was beginning to get dark outside. In future when filming we need to manage our time more carefully and choose more appropriate ties to film specific scenes. We also should use better equipment that will capture and better image as we used a different camera in our first few scenes to the second half of the trailer.
  2. Our mentors also said that we should have had more action scenes with quicker shots to make the trailer even more fast paced, exhilarating and ultimately more frightening.
  3. They also suggested that we had one of two more shots leading up to the part when they see the killer, also known as the disruption according to Todorov's theory (before the recognition of disruption). If I could change it I would probably place a shot of the camera on the teenagers threw a door to give the audience the illusion that someone is watching them.

EVALUATION: What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Audience Questionnaire

In the real world all films, short films and trailer's finished products need audience feedback to ensure that the target audience of the media product do in fact enjoy the movie. Even a film put together by media industry top professionals need feedback from their target audience.

I gathered 263 people of our main target audience in total for pre-screening of our trailer. After they watched our trailer I gave out a short questionnaire to record feedback. This is that questionnaire. It is a simple questionnaire to test whether our trailer did the simple things that a trailer should do.
-Express it's genre
-Provoke emotion
-Be clear
-Promote the film well

It is important to engage with the audience throughout the production process also and not just when our product is done and finished so that we know what they like and what they don't and how we may be able to improve, this is why audience feedback is so important.
Even in the hit movie, Paranormal Activity they based their whole marketing campaign on audience feed back and word of mouth...

Even in the trailer they used the recording the first screening of the first and their reactions to promote the film.
